Telecom vs. Healthcare

I’m very interested in both industries and would love to join one of these teams as an analyst at IB. The company I’m interning at is strong in both and works on pretty good transactions.

Please help me make the decision, as I am intending to build up my network in those teams.

Those in telecom and healthcare, how is the work life balance like in your team, are transactions interesting and do you feel like you are learning a lot (I really want to be challenged)? What bonuses are like in your team for top performers? Anything that you can add about your team - please do. Appreciated a lot!

I am bumping as I am interested in people’s thoughts as well but I can’t really help much as the most relevant experience I have is in corp dev at an aerospace and defense supplier (I know that is industrials but that is probably way too specific for any advice outside of the aerospace and defense space) and in corp dev at a utility

This is highly dependent on what firm you’re at so would take any responses you get with a grain of salt. I’m going to assume your goal is to exit to the buyside since that’s what 90% of junior bankers do. Generally you’ll see more asset intensive businesses with telecom that would be useful for infra and digital infra funds. Definitely more niche but could be a great career path as a result. On the other hand, healthcare is super broad and a huge industry only second to tech in size. You could be doing hospitals which is closer to real estate, pharma which is great for VC, or equipment which is useful in buyout. In addition, each team might have a specific product focus (debt vs. M&A) which would also impact your experience. I’d try to get more info on the type of work and sub sector each team is focused on and then come back here so we can give you better advice.
