The 1 year metaphorical time capsule

For the last few years, I've been doing something where I think back to where I was one year ago and assess where I am now. I try to see if my goals have been achieved, dreams made into reality, etc.

So 1 year ago, I saw my associates getting laid off and this summer, people were still getting cut.

This year, I'm in restructuring (so no one's been laid off) when I hoped to be on the buyside (thats what happens when you target the megafunds/top mm).

Given the dramatic series of events that occurred between then and now, I consider being employed a victory.

So the questions I pose to you guys..where were you one year ago? what were you doing? did you accomplish what you wanted? Or did the market royally screw you?

Are the analysts that lost their jobs at Bear still looking for banking jobs, did they start different roles, etc.? Although it was rough what happened to those guys, they did make it out early on before everything went to hell.

What about the kids from goldman's 1 year analyst program, lehman during the summer, lehman during sept, etc.?

Albeit, the aforementioned didn't happen a year ago. It might be interesting setting 3-6-9-12 benchmarks in your lives to see how dramatically and rapidly things can change.
