The A2A Experience - Recent Perspective?

Hi all,

Have an opportunity to go A2A in a well-respected BB group (CS / Citi / BarCap / BAML). I haven't seen a ton of recent discussion on what the A2A lifestyle is like; anyone care to chime in? I've really enjoyed banking so far and feel like I've only started to scratch the surface, and didn't really see the appeal / didn't want to rush into traditional exit ops w/o experiencing banking (yet..). I feel like I still have a lot left to learn and have heard that A2As have a bit of a step up amongst their post-MBA cohort. All that to say - what have recent experiences for A2As been like? How is work-life balance (in normal office times..) Are traditional exit opps really that out of reach, even if you end up being a rockstar associate? I'm still thinking about an MBA; how normal is this amongst A2As?

I'd ask my own team for some insight on the experience, but unfortunately we don't really have a lot of people stick around.

Thanks WSO!

Sounds like we're in the same boat - I feel the same way. I'm not quite ready to leave my BB and go smaller and I'm not ready to get out of banking quite yet. The salary to me is worth it and helps immensely down the line. I'm still thinking about an MBA - maybe 2 years from now? I'm "happy" (as can be in this awful WFH environment) and didn't see a reason to change that.

“I’ve really enjoyed banking so far” means you’re a freak of nature. If you enjoy what you’re doing, then definitely take the promotion. You’ll not only be running circles around almost any MBA associate in terms of skill and knowledge of your sector, but you’ll be ahead of everyone else in terms of attitude and drive. In a nutshell, the fact that you love hell means you will excel in it while everyone else burns. Skip the MBA btw - not worth the debt and opportunity cost of lost earnings and you don’t need it as A2A.
