Don’t know specifics about financo/if the team is in the same office as RJ. But RJ has an very tight knit culture from what I can tell. Everyone in office is genuine and they like people they could go out with after work. Somewhat fratty/ laid back but also work very hard. My take after talking to a bunch of analysts in office.
Dealflow has been incredible and the group is great. Consumer is now top 2 with tech for coverage groups at RJ. Definitely long hours though but good people
People I know at financo are fairly chill for bankers. Not super intense. They enjoy the perks of being in retail/health/beauty/consumer/restaurants and seem to appreciate job. My guess though is that the financo name/culture may disappear soon (maybe in like a year or two) as RJ and other banks seem to have done in past acquisitions
What perks do you get by being in consumer?
I think my friend just mentioned it’s nice to learn about these companies. Also he was generally in the know about the best deals, like sample sales and stuff, new restaurants, etc. for example, kinda unrelated but still related, I had a friend at Leonard Green when they owned J Crew. He was given like a special discount card that gave him a meaningful discount on anything he ever wanted to buy from them. My friend at financo gets to go to events probably of their clients and other things. It’s just like being in the industry of consumer/retail you get exposure to the best products and services the industry has as far as I can tell within reason. Also kinda unrelated but still somewhat related, the people I know who were in the entertainment/gaming/nightclub investment banking business generally got tickets / entrance to special events in Vegas for their clients. Shows, etc…
Any insight into the interview or should I be expecting the standard IB behaviorals and technicals?
