TikTok Larping FinBros

Seeing non-converted incoming summer analysts larping on TikTok spreading misinformation about salary is infuriating (eg saying roths base is £88k). Making day in the life videos where he's working 16-18h days as an Oliver wyman intern probably because he clocks pints w his MD as work. Even more shameless is sharing tips on breaking into banking when they're literally an intern in consulting, and obfuscating the fact that his 'PE internship' was in their compliance department. Somehow beyond all that he's gaining traction being the biggest larper I've seen since Mr 9 spring weeks.

It must be that guy who is a DB brand ambassador, who is an incoming summer analyst there. Wears pinstripe suits. Saying that he's working 80 hour weeks... He's at university still.

tbf equally annoying for "consulting day in a lifes". I got grinded hard at my MBB - flying out at 6-7am, working regularly past midnights with intense pressure from leadership and clients, getting my a** whooped by mega-fund pe clients and so on.

And the "day-in-the-life of a management consultant" larping is filmed by someone doing digital-implementation stuff at PwC in Toronto. Chilly Milly walking to their office in the morning, "at 12 we will go outside to grab some lunch", "at 3 there is a quick review with a manager who is happy about the progress", "at 6 I will leave the office to head for a gym session and then clock off for the night".

Dude my a** - this is not remotely close to what you would witness in any serious shop.

I have to comment on this because this happened to me in person.

My sister in law's boyfriend said he was a finance professional to impress her when they met. First time I met him, he told me he was an investment banker. I asked him "which bank did you work for bro?". Turns out he works in technology implementation (outsourced back office essentially). Maybe he felt embarrassed, he later on started calling himself a consultant. When he finally switched to big four, he said he switched to be "on the partner track" when he is the most junior person on the team.

His dad is the same vibe, called himself an investment banker when in reality he runs a call center for a no name wealth manager.

Chat, what's your take on the situation?

sigh. personal experiences vary in consulting. stop projecting your pain onto others. go see a therapist or something
