Top Banks for Leveraged Finance?
Hey monkeys
I’m looking to lateral into Leveraged Finance. What are some of the top banks for Levfin?
I would imagine it is those with larger balance sheets, yet Goldman has a Levfin team too.
Any insight is appreciated.
Thanks!
With regards to exit ops:
BAML has the best levfin group and maybe the only one that actually lives up to the “Levfin is the juggernaut group for PE recruiting” hype.
Behind that would be CS.
With regards to good job with better work life balance and solid deal flow:
JPM, WF
thoughts on RBC?
Limited knowledge of the group. Believe they are fairly active but can’t speak to group culture or exit ops (beyond my own anecdotal experience of never having met / come across a PE associate who was an analyst in that group).
Having said all of that, I think RBC overall is a pretty underrated bank on this forum and is def viewed more favorably by recruiters and buyside shops than it gets credit for.
lev fin at rbc is legit in the states, i don’t think the toronto levfin group is sick because there isn’t much of a levfin market in canada
BAML, JPM, CS are in my opinion the top teams, cannot comment on RBC
Top BB and mid market Investment Banks that model heavy in Leveraged Finance (Originally Posted: 03/10/2018)
Hey Guys, I am wondering what are the top model heavy leveraged finance divisions in BB and mid market Investment banks. I want to be able to focus on the banks that provide the best leveraged finance modeling training.

Thoughts on DB levfin?
From a Q2 Bloomberg article...
Here's a thread on this from earlier this year...
Just saw this, https://www.dealogic.com/insight/first-9-months-loan-highlights/ would probably give more insights.
it regards syndicated loans in general so I believe it also takes into account Corporate banking teams which do vanilla corporate lending
Thanks all for the info. This was really helpful.
What/where are you lateraling from?
BAML > JPM/CS
BAML is the top LevFin team for analyst looking to place because they run their models. JPM has strong deal flow but they don't always run the model. CS is strong.
thoughts on BNP LevFin?
Had a buddy in BNP levfin - he said the culture was pretty bad but he learned a lot regarding modeling and running smaller deals. Lots of turnover, but could be a good place to get your start and lateral.
Yes. BAML Lev Fin. I like the culture that the team portrays. A lot didn't come from a traditional banking background. Many associate and up are gear toward being career bankers. They leverage every part of the BOA franchise to source business. I have seem many who come from a non-target and lateral into BAML or did a post MBA associate program. Work hard, play hard. A lot of team play. In short, they hire a lot of underdogs.
