Trading offers is a part of the game

Saw some concerning content on another thread. Why the heck are you all mad if a sophomore leverages their top IB or PE offer to accelerate someplace else? That’s literally the name of the game when I was recruiting; everyone I know who could do it, did it. Especially with a goal in mind, that’s the smartest thing I think a student can do. Even professionals deep into their careers leverage job offers to raise comp, bump titles, etc… Don’t hate the player, hate the game!

The problem is people lying about exploding offers to get in the process somewhere. Heard tons of people are doing it this year for SA 2024. Bofa and JPM went early for diversity and people used fake offers from them to get into MF PE and EB processes

This is 100% on the hiring firm. If the candidate tells me they have one, I ask where. If they tell me, I validate through friends or whoever. If I like them, I pitch the firm/group hard and let them decide. If candidate declines to say where, I just assume they're making it up or trying to leverage one off the other. I got no time for that and tell them to pick the other place.
