Training at Barcap and effects on group placement
I know Barclays usually gives generalist offers and if you worked there over the summer it is relatively easy to get back into where you interned. However, what effect does there training have on group placement and how are you evaluated, ranked, etc??? In other words i was reading in other posts of how some groups usually get the top analyst and i was curious how they determine who the top analyst are?
You're evaluated based on your homework and test scores. And your networking efforts I'm sure.
Is this for NY right?
Directly from a presentation from one of the people in human resources. After training each first-year analyst makes a list of the top division they would like to be placed in. At the same time, the directors of each division make a list of their "most desirable" trainees. The two lists are then matched up and people are placed accordingly. It essentially resembles rushing a frat or sorority. Friends have told me it's not so much how smart you are or how "good" you are (everyone's new and essentially has no clue what they're really doing). More importantly its how personable you are and if you've shown a good work ethic and willingness to learn. INetworking and brown-nosing play a large role in the placement process no doubt. I've heard it also really helps to convey an interest to the directors as to which desk/division you prefer - let them know you're interested and really want to work in that particular group.
