I was regretting making this post but here goes nothing. Any and all help is super appreciated!
I'm currently recruiting for SA 2021 roles and really want to break into IB. I go to a pretty low non-target and although I've networked a ton and know I'll hopefully have some opportunities coming my way soon, I want to have some backups.
If I don't end up breaking in for SA 2021, I'm probably going to consider transferring schools. I have a 3.72 GPA and a 1450 SAT score. My resume has applicable internships and organizations on it. Do you guys have any rough ideas of the schools I can get into? Assuming it's a no for the Ivies but maybe a positive outlook for UMich and UNC and schools like that? Let me know!
So I actually don't think you should switch schools. I'm assuming that you're a rising junior so you would end up switching just for senior year or having to repeat/take new credits. It doesn't seem worth it and I think a better plan would be to focus on networking. I get that this might not be what you want to hear but you're still a little early in the process so I would suggest being a little more patient.
Appreciate the insight. Definitely willing to do an extra year, don't really mind that too much. It's just tough man, seeing everyone get interview offers so effortlessly from target schools while being in a pretty bad position as a non-target :(
I totally get that. I went through the exact same thing. Even kids at my own non-target were able to land interviews when I wasn't. Look, sometimes it just takes longer and you'd be surprised how much luck or connections (and by connections, I mean family relations) come into play but everyone lands something eventually. Trust me, it doesn't get easier. My plans got put on hold because of COVID but I constantly see half my friends posting about their new jobs. In any case best of luck.
Target school kids don't effortlessly get interviews. Sure, they may have a more direct pipeline into IB, but that doesn't negate from years of hard work to both get into the target school and remain at the top of one's class. I empathize with the challenges many non-targets face while trying to break into IB, it's not ideal, but it's extremely doable. Don't stop hustling until you're there, stay on top of everything, and try to be the best candidate possible.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure after your sophomore year it's, unless you have a good reason, extremely difficult to transfer, especially into the public ivies and those types of schools.
You might be able to get into a t50 but I think the chances at one of those schools you mentioned is very slim now that you're a junior. Yes it does matter that much.
I would honestly continue to build your network, and also apply to transfer. Think about all the students electing to withdraw from university for a semester or two due to covid-19. More likely than not you'll have a better chance than usual to transfer into a top tier school given there are more open spots. Your SAT and GPA are decent, but the transfer admission process is largely unpredicatable, so I'd shoot for whatever you think you'd want no matter how much of a reach it may be on paper.
