Does anyone know the answer?Thanks

Hannah is meeting with Jeremy at 12:30. She thinks her watch is 3 minutes slow but it is actually 7 minutes fast. Jeremy thinks his watch is 5 minutes fast but it is actually 1 minute slow. Hannah arrives when she thinks it is 12:35.

Assuming that Jeremy is already there waiting, what time does Jeremy think it is when Hannah arrives?

Interesting one! Here are the steps I went through:

Hannah

  1. She thinks it's 12:35
  2. She arrived when her watch said 12:32, because she thinks her watch is 3 minutes slow
  3. Her watch is actually 7 minutes fast, meaning the actual time is 12:25

Jeremy

  1. We now know the actual time is 12:25
  2. His watch is actually 1 minute slow, so it reads 12:24
  3. He thinks it is 5 minutes fast, so Jeremy thinks the time is 12:19 when Hannah arrives

Here’s my thought process: Hannah thinks she got there at 12:35, but she also (wrongly) thinks her watch is 3 minutes slow/(behind) actual time; so the time on her watch shows 12:32. In reality, her watch is 7 minutes fast/(ahead of) actual time, so the actual time Hannah arrived is 12:25.

Jeremy sees Hannah rushing in and looks at his watch - his watch shows a time of 12:24 as it is 1 minute behind actual time.

Jeremy (wrongly) thinks his watch is 5 minutes ahead of the time shown on his watch, so his perceived time that Hannah arrived is 12:19. There is bit of a disconnect between what he perceives and reality.

He sits there scratching his head wondering why Hannah is looking all frazzled, sweaty and out of breath despite being early by 11 minutes.
