Tudor Pickering Holt/PWP culture

Looking at an opportunity at Tudor Pickering Holt, the energy arm of PWP. Looking for if anyone has recent thoughts on the culture, good or bad. Both how people are and things like protected weekends and how well that's enforced, etc. If you haven't worked there or don't know someone there, please don't comment here - not looking for comments from college kids regurgitating a Houston thread from 10 years ago with stale info.

Currently at a NY BB looking to move.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about the culture at Tudor Pickering Holt (PWP Houston):

Culture Insights:

  • Incredible Culture: The culture at TPH is described as "pretty incredible." Partners and MDs contribute their own money to send analysts and associates on weekend trips (skiing, beach, lake, etc.), which indicates a strong emphasis on team bonding and morale.
  • Compensation: It is emphasized that employees at TPH are likely to get paid more over their career compared to a bulge bracket bank.
  • Protected Saturdays: There is a policy for protected Saturdays, which is generally respected by senior bankers. However, the enforceability can vary from group to group. Most senior bankers respect the policy, but some may expect work on Saturdays without reporting it. Generally, employees are expected to check emails to ensure nothing urgent comes up, but random work requests on Saturdays are not common.

Additional Considerations:

  • IPO Impact: There has been news about PWP hiring Goldman to prepare for an IPO. This could potentially affect compensation structures, such as bonuses being paid in stock versus all cash.

Summary:

  • Positive Aspects: Strong team culture, higher long-term compensation, and generally respected protected Saturdays.
  • Potential Changes: Possible changes in compensation structure due to IPO preparations.

This should give you a comprehensive view of what to expect at TPH in terms of culture and work-life balance.
