U5 Termination Help!!

Hi all,

I was terminated from my investment bank (boutique in NYC/London), and on my U5 form, it was cited as a "violation of internal policy" - The "internal policy" that was violated was the hosting of a party in our firm-paid corporate housing, the attendees being the other members of our analyst class. - "internal policy violation" is a broad term and without context, sounds terrible. - In terms of background/context, the firm was Probably looking for any excuse to reduce headcount without having to pay severance, and even cut more than 20% of staff worldwide that same week.

  • The above has already cost me a PWM opportunity (all they saw was the policy violation without context)
  • Does this bar me from any/all bulge bracket opportunities in the future (even post-MBA?), in all fields of finance (pwm, IBD, AM, etc.)?

I realize that there are a ton of other forum posts here, I've seen them already and none of them provide much additional help.

I welcome any and all insights. Thank you!

In reality, you fucked up at some point and don't want to admit it. If they fired you for a violation of internal policy, they must have solid proof. Now ask yourself: what's the proof? Was there music blaring through the walls at 4:00 in the morning? Did you throw a piano out the window? Did you destroy the furniture?

“In reality” - meaning of course fucked up, and not intended to excuse it.

The question is more along the lines, does this bar me from a future in IBD/registered broker dealers, post MBA?

Proof = house keeping took photos of some of the aftermath, smoking indoors, etc. -

Was interesting seeing that having analyst parties was a common occurrence but no one else was caught.

If I had disclosed this immediately/provided context, would this scenario been different? Does this bar me from ever getting a job again?
