UBS Executives Considering Shuttering Global Banking in Americas

Have heard this rumor from a couple well placed folks. Anyone else heard similar? Apparently with Swiss capital rules and perpetual struggles the juice isnt worth the squeeze (eg GB isnt even profitable on its own)

To be clear this would NOT impact anyone in S&T.

No way this is true, they need to keep it as a service to wealth clients

Still keep in touch with a couple of senior MDs now am on the client side; this is very false, and also have it on very good word that UBS is still selectively looking at hiring some seniors (don't worry not in TMT afaik). Another reason not to believe random things from juniors on WSO

If you're a junior in a shitty group and/or with bad reviews, you should probably look to leave though. Whether you like it or not, you are affiliated with the bloat that makes up many of UBS's America's group, and sooner or later, there will be mass layoffs in those groups because banking is a very ruthless business. No, IBD firm cares about their people unless they make money directly for them, juniors don't... There are simply too many people interested in becoming an IB junior.

No again I keep in very close touch with several very senior leaders within UBS, the firm is not looking to shut down in America's. For better or worse, they are still hiring seniors selectively.

I think there are a lot of rumors around UBS that are negative from both ex-UBS people and current UBS people, as I think a lot of the legacy UBS/CS people are mad at one of the layoffs/low bonuses/worsening culture in almost all groups.
