UBS IB Top Groups - London

Hey guys,

Just got an offer to join UBS in London and looking for some advice. Which groups would you recommend at the entry level in terms of deal flow, learning curve, mentoring, work-life balance, and overall team quality? Also, any groups I should steer clear of and why (controversial opinions are more than welcomed)?

Very curious about Chemicals but also Healthcare (heard very mixed reviews), and Sponsors in particular. Are these groups strong, and how’s the team dynamic?

  • FIG, by far the top group, but works the most
  • GIG known to be very solid overall - with Infra being the strongest
  • TMT avoid, but solid in telecoms (owns the Vodafone relationship)
  • Healthcare sweatshop similar to FIG, but doesn’t boast the dealflow FIG has, seen quite a big turnover.
  • Consumer used to be bad, but seems okayish with CS integration
  • LevFin seems to do very well
  • RELL not too much insight seen some large deals coming through from them
  • M&A ok very process heavy team
  • FSG is a senior only team

Note that FIG recently fired some juniors including newly promoted analyst 2

Very accurate. Few additional comments

- execution group / pool: can be interesting if you are willing to really put in work and try hard to get exposure to seniors
- uk team: classic country team and do a lot of coverage efforts. Great culture and solid deal flow
- RELL: small team with extreme ebbs and flows. They were on several big tx this year as stated above
