UK masters into NYC project finance. Is this stupid?

US citizen, no UK passport. Graduating in December, did a summer at a Japanese bank in NY on the finance side. Not PF, but I spent the whole summer talking to their PF and syndications people and that's what I want to do.

I've been looking at UK masters programs since they actually teach this stuff. Bayes has a good one. Nothing in the US really compares unless you count an MSF that spends two weeks on infra.

Two things I can't figure out. One, is a UK masters even a reasonable move for someone trying to end up in NYC, or is it just a detour. Two, if I do it, am I setting myself up to recruit in London where I can't legally work, and then trying to come back here where nobody's heard of the school.

Anyone actually done UK masters into a US PF seat? Do NYC groups care about the school name, or do they just want to know you understand the product and can model it?

Be honest, I'd rather hear it now than after I spend a year and 50k.

The short answer is yes, it would be quite a detour. No one in front office finance really cares about a masters. I would say going to a target school in undergrad helps, but experience is the best thing you can do to get closer to your ideal role. I would say keep your 50k and utilize your previous role. Just my two cents, it’s your desision at the end of the day
