Do banks even consider recruiting summer analysts (both US and overseas positions) from the pool of undergrad seniors? If yes, are they equally evaluated, or banks prefer juniors for SA? Please advise.
Can You Get a Summer Internship After Graduation?
In general, graduating seniors will not be considered for summer analyst positions. Most banks have already recruited seniors for full-time positions. If you didn’t get a full-time post already, then they likely won’t want to hire you for the summer.
This post was originally written in 2009, however, and coming off the financial crisis and lack of internship opportunities in the prior year, some banks were allowing graduating seniors to recruit for summer internship positions.
Barring another global meltdown and recovery, the best way into an internship after you graduate may be through:
- Obtaining a Master’s degree right after undergrad
- Networking
- Attempting off-cycle recruiting

because they recruited seniors for full-time positions in the fall and if you didn't get a full-time spot in the fall they don't want to hire you.
They do recruit seniors if you are staying the fifth year or one extra quarter
how would it look if i stayed an extra quarter - i would be able to grab another internship and finish a second major? also since i'm not looking for IB specifically do other groups care less (pwm, research)?
under normal circumstances, trying to get an internship as a senior would be deserving of ridicule. however, its not like there was a full recruiting effort this past fall.
It would make sense to recruit you if you're enrolling in a 1 year master's program right after you graduate, or if you have a good reason as to why you are staying as a 5th year.
I've actually heard from the career center at my university that many banks (including BB's) are opening up SA spots to seniors for those students who didnt manage to secure a spot through this fall's recruiting. It's worth a shot, especially if you've got nothing else going at the moment...

i have a few friends who pulled this off..it is DEFINITELY possible in this mkt..just make sure you've got a good story and know your shit.
