Don't do this. Pitches can become live very quickly (unless you are at a bad bank/group). Next time you know, you have a teaser, board deck, and an early look presentation to draft by tomorrow

How can one tell when a pitch is likely to become a live deal? Which banks often turn pitches into live deals?

First of all, is this a bake-off or idea generation. That alone will give you a good indication on whether this will go live. If it’s idea generation, no shot in hell you’re doing any live work in the foreseeable future. If it’s a bake-off, look at how long you guys have been talking with this company. Good mds will have been building the relationship over a 2-3 year period prior to sale (sometimes way way longer too). Have you presented to board before and is the lead md a rainmaker or joe shmo? Always will be a toss up but if there’s an actual relationship then you have a much better shot.
