Updates for Recruiting Timeline - 2019 SA

I recently spoke to a well connected associate at a top BB regarding the timing of summer analyst recruiting which I know has been a hot topic as of late. It sounds like top BBs (Goldman, MS, JPM) and EBs will conduct first round interviews in April/May with superdays shortly after first rounds. This will continue throughout the summer. I think this makes sense because summer is a slower time for the banks anyway, so it will be easier to conduct interviews during that time.

This changes things because you will not have your sophomore internship to speak to during recruiting which means they’ll have to put more weight on your gpa, quality of your school, and involvement in on campus extra curriculars. He mentioned that it could hurt non targets because they will have less info to differentiate themselves with, so non-targets will likely be interviewed in the back half of the process as usual. I don’t think this changes much for diversity recruits because they have a required number of slots to fill, but we didn’t talk about that.

Overall, sounds like there is no reason to panic as long as you are involved on campus, at a target/semi-target, and have already begun sharpening your technical skills. Also if you’re going for lower tier BB or MM there may be absolutely no difference at all. However I’d guess they will move up their recruiting time slightly but not quite as aggressively as the elite banks. Hope this helps everyone
