Full disclosure, I have never worked at Ventum/Echelon so the below is just what I have seen in the market and on their website. Also I don't know what you mean by "comps" but I have left some notes about Ventum below about the common things people ask for on this site:
The majority of their deal flow is ECM related where I think their main focus is on smaller companies. Specifically I think do a lot equity financing deals for companies on the TSXV which in today's market, is mostly junior mining companies, but a couple years ago guessing their deal flow had more of a mix of tech/crypto/e-sports and years before that was probably heavy on cannabis, etc.
They will probably get the odd fairness opinion or M&A engagement but based on the transactions they disclose on their website, that is not super common (in 2024 their website indicates they were on 2 M&A deals where the rest were all equity offerings, but there might be other deals that they do not publicly disclose)
I wouldn't say that M&A work is better than ECM but they are different, I know a lot of people on this site place a premium on M&A, so if you are looking for M&A exposure, Ventum probably will not give you much experience in that area. If it is your only offer and you want to do IB, then I would take it but if there is another offer at a different IB that does more M&A, probably better to choose the other offer
I have no idea what compensation looks like, but guessing it is lower than the Big 6/Canaccord/US Banks in Canada and that the compensation is highly dependent on deal flow
Specifically I think if Ventum overall has an amazing year, I am guessing your bonus will likely be very good, but the inverse is also true too
I am guessing that the comp for junior employees are probably a bit more insulated to swings in the business where you will get less of the upside but also not be as exposed to the downside. However I think this is probably dependent on the place and applies more to the bigger places
I have no idea what exits are like, but I think this is going to be entirely dependent on the person and how they perform as Ventum is not a brand name and is generally smaller in terms of staff (i.e. likely only hires when needed so does not have a revolving door of analysts/associates that you see at the bigger places) so it is hard to say what a common exit is
