Generally the senior people are still very concerned because so much of their bonus is paid out in stock... and if these financial sector stocks continue to plummet, you'll get a "spiral of death" (this is what someone else at my bank was referring to it as) where banks get less and less valuable but have to pay out more and more in stock... resulting in people getting pissed over smaller and smaller bonuses.
The mood in the industry is still pretty dismal even with stories like that.
Shouldn't affect analysts much since we don't get paid in stock at all... main question is what are analyst bonuses based on, 2007 full-year numbers or 6/30/08 TTM numbers? I've heard senior people say both so I'm honestly not sure. Anyone have an answer here?
6/30 TTM. Why would analysts get credit for a portion of the year they weren't even employed?
6/30 LTM is what I am hearing as well for analysts.
The 1st year associates are lucking out considering their stub is getting paid off of 12/31 LTM and then they have an extra 6 months for the markets to recover.
More like associates are "lucking out" due to the phenominal performance in the market for the first 5 months of 2007.
Noob question - can't you sell those stocks as soon as you get them?
You can so long as they are vested. For more junior folks, most or all of the stock should vest either immediately or within 6 months.
Cool. Thanks
Looks like the 14% figure overstates the increase given that total employment went up 11% for the firms.

He received a 68 mil bonus...not bad for playing both sides of the market.
Lloyd was originally projected to receive a $75 million bonus, so... if he really bought into that figure - he could be quite unhappy right now.
yea, I bet he is having a tuff holiday season.
