Wanting to quit so early on
Does everyone go through the motions of wanting to quit first few weeks. Really toxic associates and genuinely maybe just me not being as fast at understanding things, but I don't see how I even do these two years. Regret not looking into anything else in school. Want to keep pushing and doing good work so I'm not fired but no motivation.
First few months are usually rough because you're brand new to an environment like this, especially being full time. It's not a unique experience, you honestly just have to tough it out a least a year and then do something else.

I was actually in equity research but my experience was similar (i.e. long hours, turning comments/notes at 2am, emails/calls at all hours of the day, work never ending, etc...) the only reason I look back at my 2 years and laugh it off is because I always viewed my stint as temporary. The "hardships" were merely a stepping stone in my life and career. My experience taught me how to develop thick skin, be confident, know when to laugh some bs my analyst did off, and know when I didn't know something. No other experience would have given me the same level of preparedness as my time in equity research and specifically under my analyst. The learning curve you experience comes in waves. The first 6 months you know nothing, the next 6 you know some, the next you learn more things because that's how life operates, and it goes on and on.... You will always deal with toxic people, whether in life or at work. You honestly just have to keep things cordial and professional and box their negativity out.
After going through the same experience you are going through early on I told myself if I still felt the same way in 2 years (just less of the "everything sucks I hate this" and more of "this isn't what I want to spend my career doing") then it's time to leave, and I left. No hard feelings, no work drama, just quietly recruiting for a different role that would allow me to have a better balance in my life. I'm now at a start up and things are going much better. More time to work out, more to move and enjoy my life, still recruiting for what I want to spend my career doing but I'm grateful for the opportunities I've had.
Helpful. Think just viewing as temporary would help. It's almost all you do all day everyday so it starts to feel like that's just it
