Was the company right to withdraw the offer (UK)?

I got an offer from a FTSE 100, with around £10bn revenue and £3bn EBITDA for a Corp dev role. I have been unemployed for a while now so was kind of excited. After I got the offer, I told the HR that I needed a visa, and we realised that I selected no when filling the application form.

I did not do it for this company on purpose.  There was a time I was desperate given how long I was unemployed and just wanted to see If I was being screened out for visa reasons. Apparently, this company was one of them. I don’t really remember or consider any application seriously before they give me an interview. I have checked after I received the interview invite but couldn’t see the specific part on my application summary from my side at least.

So now the HR is pissed off and they are withdrawing the offer which I can understand at this point even though they sponsor

I do feel like though with my experience working at already 2 or 3 banks this wouldn’t even have been a problem.  I just realised at least in the UK that banking and other high finance culture is unique and different from the other corporate. Tbh, I miss that.

What’s your point of view on the issue?
