We are not hiring
I emailed an MD at a small boutique asking for informational interview. In my email I stated that I'm interested in investment banking and if we could meet at talk about the industry. Anyways I got a reply that they are not hiring at the moment, thanking me for the enquiry.
Is this a fuck off response or did he misunderstand me being interested in investment banking in general not specifically at his firm ? Should I reply?
It may be but I would reply thanking him for the response and reiterate that you would like to meet to discuss the industry in general and how to better position yourself to enter the industry.
This is the kind of ignorant, pulled straight from the ass advice given by college sophomores that never fails to amuse me on this site.
I would just move on, no need to push it since its just an informational interview

I cold e-mailed over 50 MDs. Only 7 or 8 responded, and they all indicated that they weren't hiring. I guess you should try to contact some of the alumni who are working in banking. I took a Big 4 auditing job since my plan of breaking into banking failed. Good luck, I hope your luck is better than mine:)
