Previously interned in redact, and redact roles. Seeking PE or IB opportunities, but I understand it's not very likely for me to get one this summer. So should I go for a weaker internship this summer or should I rather do summer school and focus on 2021 SA recruitment?

2020 IB internship recruiting has long passed. Its now just a competition to see whose internship doesn’t get cancelled in the current climate.
2021 recruiting has started/is starting fairly soon at most banks and that should get all your attention.
Try to find an internship that’s finance/consulting related or technical at whatever company will hire you for this summer. I wouldn’t get my hopes up, already had my shit cancelled.

It was a consulting internship, that’s all I’m prepared to share to avoid doxing myself
Any work experience is better than no work experience. However, if you do have some free time this summer, try to upskill yourself.
I was just thinking about how it’s gonna fit into my “story” when I’m interviewing for IB/PE. Or you mean I could do something but not necessarily reflect it on my CV.
I would find an internship and try and make it as close to IB as possible. worst case, it shows you continued to grind and find something to do when others could easily make it an excuse. if it’s tangential to banking, you can find a way for it to make sense.
