Weekend Hours In IB
I wanted to ask you all what your weekend hours looked liked in IB. I'm trying to make comparisons from boutique, MM, BB, EB.
I know a lot of these hours depend on what group you're in and what stage of the deal you're on, but it'd be interesting to see what people post. I'd appreciate it if you had a format like this:
Bank Type: MM City or Region: NYC or North East Position: Analyst Coverage Group: M&A Saturday: 11am - 5pm (6hrs) for example Sunday: 11am - 5pm (6hrs)
Please post what a normal weekend is like for you. Do you have time to do much? Ex: play in a city sport league, catch a game, or even a movie every now and then.
"There is no normal day"
BB / Coverage / NYC Sat: None Sun: 12-9 (avg)
My average weekend is similar to this.
BB / Associate / Energy coverage / Houston
Sat - none Sun - 12pm - 10pm
BB / Coverage / NYC / Analyst
No specific split between Saturday/Sunday, I’d break it down this way:
1 weekend/month, 5-10 hours total 2 weekends/month, 2-4 hours total (usually just remote log-in from home for this) 1 weekend/month, 0 hours
Certain anomalous weekends where its 15-20 hours total, but not often
Thanks for the breakdown, that was very helpful. I'm starting FT in the summer, and I've been trying to gage weekend hours so this post works well!. I'm hoping to join a city sports league on the weekends for fun as well. Some of my friends in IB say Sundays are good for them to do that.
Yeah, depends on your group. This is definitely not the norm, my friends in the sweatier groups in my bank say that they haven't missed a weekend in the office since we've started. But, one of the analysts in my group is on a nearby late weekday night sports team (like 10pm game time) and he's able to make it a good portion of the time.
Would generally do 4 or 5 hours each day as an analyst sometimes more sometimes less. Would generally move the time around depending on hangover and if I could get there and time it to get free lunch and dinner on seamless.
You would probably get more responses if you reminded the general population of what a weekend is. Many of them may not have experienced any decreased workload during those days in so many years that they may have lost all familiarity with the concept.

Damm BB weekend hours don't seem too bad
Wonder how it's like at some of the sweatier boutiques
I mean it leads to 85-90 hours per week. Don’t miss those days at all.

Live Deal (2+): 10-24 Live Deal (1): 3-5 No live Deal: 0, but last minute pitches can take up your weekend
If at least one live deal, I'm working typically a minimum 3 out of the 4 weekends in a month
At the end of the day, as you noted, once a deal is going, everything is pretty much fair game.
