What do you guys want to do in the long term?

Just curious what the people in this forum are looking to do many many years from now. If you want, also please include what stage of life you're at right now (eg second year analyst).

I'm about to enter banking (IBD at a BB) next year and am feeling rather lost since I don't think banking is a long term solution. But I also know I'm nowhere near unique on this one. I'd like to really contribute to a firm or to society someday, whether that means deciding a company's strategy or teaching at some school/university.

my plan is to work in IB for 15-20 years, then retire at 40-45, and go teach investment banking part time at college 1 class per semester.

This way I'll be financially secure, and will get the opportunity to pass on some of the knowledge.

  • Retirement is boring as hell, so having something to do to spice it up twice a week, will be nice.

and I'm a senior in college right now, so not even in IB yet...but I think I'll enjoy it since I've really enjoyed valuation part of my education

I am a soon to be graduate See mysedlf doing my MBA 4 years from now

at 30 I wanna be quite financially indepent. Also, see myself picking an industry (media, tech, broadcatsing or something along those lines) and then work during my 40's and 50's to be a tycoon of that industry.... till I make it to forbes 100 list.

What do I want to do? models and for the long term!

Actually, one really good one would suffice.

All kidding aside, I would like to run my own investment/advisory firm, with very sharp people working for/with me and doing interesting work.

I quite like the idea of doing an interesting deal or two a year when I'm in my 50s having already made my money and proven myself. I can also see myself being more involved with society/family at that stage.

On the other hand, sometimes I feel this great urge to achieve financial success early in my life to allow me to quit the rat race and live a semi-bohemian, relaxed lifestyle, spending most of my time with young woman and friends.

After becoming the most successful and respected investment banker ever by the age of 35, I plan to battle the Clingons for total dominance of the universe

hopefully i will get to work as a n analyst for a few years, save some money and attend law school on a part-time basis, while working in a finance position at a bank or something. Can't do both
