what does mark-to-market mean?
Suppose I bought 1 shares of AAPL at $100 yesterday and today it trades at $150. How would one you use "mark-to-market" in this hypothetical? I'm some what at a loss with this terminology.

The mark-to-market value of your AAPL shares is the market value of AAPL because it's a simple common share. So your mark-to-market value is $150.
For certain more complex securities or non-traded securities (think debt instruments that are privately held) mark-to-market would mean valuing them based on market comps.
Mark-to-model is valuing holdings according to a model - a PE firm might project $20M 2022E EBITDA using a financial model and slap on a 10x multiple for a $200M mark-to-model valuation.
