What does people think about Maxim Group?

I am looking at this MM firm recently and talked to a few people inside it, understand that it's MM focused, did a lot of public deals (capital markets, IPOs, etc) and has a strong retail arm.

However, after talking to a senior banker at another firm, he told me that there's a "stigma" attached to Maxim as it sometimes gets deals done but some of those deals shouldn't get done. And he said that people at other MM banks will view candidates who have Maxim working experience as negative and sometimes people didn't win offers because they had experience at Maxim.

Is it true?

Do other MM banks really view people who have Maxim IB experience negative and what are the possible choices of bank if people who want to make lateral moves from Maxim to other banks?

Thanks!
