What IB group would you join if you could go back in time
As an IB intern, it would be great to hear some experiences as to what sector / product / geography you cover, what its pros and cons are (exits / WLB / overspecializing etc.)
– and then what group you would have otherwise joined if you could go back in time (+ why?)
Bump
Sponsors
Best for PE?
Why? And why not levfin?
A lot of sponsors groups are focused on just managing relationships and don’t do as much of the gritty execution work (which usually gets tossed to coverage/M&A groups). So you can get paid a lot and have a “better” banking experience.
Honestly natural resources group that cover infra: thinking GS/JPM NR
Trust me, i wish i didnt join a group like this. I wish I had a vanilla group like consumer / industrials. Infra is far too complex and its a sponsor led sector and so you will do 90% buysides with annoying PE clients which means you will have a shit analyst experience in terms of WLB. Coupled with the fact that once you enter in infra it is very hard to leave to another sector / vanilla PE (I have been told by recruiters that it is very unlikely i will be able to move out from infra)
TLDR - do not pick infra!
DCM covering energy. Hours are not as bad, free weekends, banking comp, and probably easier to build a book of business versus pitching the merger that will never happen
