What is Investment Banking: Research?

I was offered a position that is "Investment Banking: Research" I'm not sure if I should take it, partly because I do not know much about it. How would this help me if I wanted to become an Investment Banker? All replies are appreciated.

I don't have any details. I was talking to a friend and he told me he can get me work ( I assume internship) doing Investment Banking: Research. I want to contact him about it, but I need to learn more about the position. I havent found much online.

It is most likely a position in equity research, which is a FO role. I am wondering, how is your friend just getting you this position without you really knowing anything about it. Is it at a BB do you have to interview or anything. on't hold me to this, I'm still a student looking at SA positions, but you will most likely be given an industry and you will research diff companies within the industry and write research reports on them. You will build financial models and such and your research reports will be distributed to other divisions in the bank. I believe generally sales and trading as well as ibd. In this position, you really study companies inside and out and you report on the companies you study.

I'm not sure Hope to Bank ought to be taking advice from Wana Be in Finance ... LOL.

But seriously, dude you have to give a lot more detail to get a substantive answer. All depends on your other alternatives and what firm it is.

PM me and I'll try to help if you guve me more details.

Wow - you got a job offer for a position that you know absolutely nothing about?

That's just awesome. If only it were always this easy...

Sounds like a research librarian role that they have at IBs. I thought that all banks outsourced this role already.

------------ I'm making it up as I go along.
