What is the perception of Corporate Treasury roles at banks?
I just started in the Treasury group working on what they call the "Asset Liability Management" team. The role is mostly back office but we are collaborate closely with the liquidity management team who I would consider mid-office since they do have their trading desk to enter hedge positions for interest rate risk and liquidity purposes.
My role currently is just to re-model the internal transfer pricing mechanism and improve it via our modeling software, as well as monthly reporting for the Net Interest Income performance of the team, and that's basically it! I'm new so I don't expect it to be super technical so early on anyways but I do have some concerns that maybe I am not adding enough value in this role, so I wanted to see if you guys think there might be experiential value in me investing my time and effort learning the ins and outs of the teams, with the hopes of this knowledge transferring well into more "higher finance" or closer to front office roles in the future. Area of interest to me are Fixed Income, PE, or IB. What are your thoughts?
