What makes a great investment banker in ECM?

As an investment banker in ECM, what are your career improvement goals. Where do you want to be? What processes or qualities do you need to excel to be great at your job.

These questions are sitting in my head because I want to get a good idea of a career in ECM and what person would succeed most in then job. Unfortunately, I don't know any investment bankers to ask this question.

I would really appreciate it if you guys could throw in your 2 cents.
