Looking for a 1-2 month range when the most lateral opportunities open up at some of the larger banks or top middle markets. Is it around the new year or closer to the summer?
Also, for those of you who did make the lateral move, at what point did you start shooting out resumes and interviewing (3 month, 6 month, 8 month marks)?

Right after analyst year-end at the relevant firm. 2nd/3rd years are leaving for other jobs, and poor 1st year analysts are pushed out the door. Aug.-Oct. or Feb.-Apr.

Are "generalists" looked down upon in terms of lateral recruitment? Is it better to have a sector in mind that you have done a deal or two in and label yourself in terms of that?

Trying to explore opportunities in IB and ER. Have been working two years in a big name non-IBD department after got my MS Finance degree.
Can someone please share opinions on what would be a general time of hiring freeze for lateral recruiting? Thx!
I would say that there tends to be less hiring around that period because they will have a new batch of people who probably got converted from their summer internships. On the other hand, I would say after Jan/Feb would be a good time as people might quit after getting their bonuses.
