What would you take: Great company with a mediocre group/team or mediocre company with a great group/team?
I was curious as to the opinion of the people in WSO on what they would take in the above situation. I know everyone wants a BB/EB role and the dream would be to have both but if one had to chose what would be better? For the context of the question, assume one wants to advance their career as their main goal so that could either be to get promoted in IB or to move to PE as fast as possible. Some questions that relate:
- Does the good group have its own rep outside of the company? Does the bad group in the great firm have an "umbrella effect" of the brand name
- Is there something to be said that deal flow trumps all and that whatever gets you the best work is the best option?
- Does it even matter?
