What's going on?

Hi guys,

I accepted summer analyst position in tech in a BB's S&T division. I recently asked the person who would be in charge of me how I could prepare for the job.

I was told to pick up an intro to fixed income book, a couple books about trading risks calculation and a couple books about financial math.

I also asked him if I should learn something about IT and programming and he said IT work is almost non-existant even though i am hired through the tech group and the programming knowledge of the work works itself out and is way less important than trading math, risk calculation and knowledge of the field.

I also asked about what I actually will be doing in the summer.. and he said mainly developing models for pricing and trading risk type of stuff...

I am confused. I thought banking tech is basically keeping the network going and computers working or programming applications..

What role do you think I will be working? Does it still sound different from the typical tech dead-end want to stay away from??
