What's the error that's taken you longest to find or fix when reviewing a financial model?
I'm a finance student building DCFs and trying to get better at reviewing my own models. I've read that most spreadsheets contain errors, and that models often need several rounds of review before sign-off, but I can't find much on which types of error actually cost the most time.
For people who build or review models regularly:
- What's the worst error you've had to track down, and how long did it take?
- Is the slow part usually finding it or fixing it?
- What checks do you run by hand every time (balance check, hardcode sweep, etc.)?
Would love to hear real examples, including what you'd tell a beginner to check first.
