Do you get an office once you reach the VP level? Or is it only for the D’s and MD’s?
And what about having your own secretary? Will you get one once you’re an MD?

I don't work on the IB side, but I do work for a BB. I'm in one of the larger buildings and I'm told that the structure here is similar across the board. VPs and SVPs are in cubicles, most Directors are in offices, all MDs are in offices and have at least 1 shared secretary (some have their own).
Only D's and MD's have offices, but only D's are sometimes in. MD's are always meeting clients, on the road, or at home.
Cubicles depends on the banks. Some have them, some have an open space plan, were analysts, associates and even VPs sit next to each other.
Secretary is as described 'shared'.

I have seen offices with associates in offices. Usually VP at the earliest for an office though.

Depends on the bank and office. At GS for example, only partners have offices and it's open office for everyone else. I know RBC in Toronto is also setup similarly (ie. open office for everyone). I've also seen regional offices when analysts have offices (sometimes their own, sometimes they shared) and everything in between. At my current fund, associates are 2 per office and everyone else gets their own.
At smaller IBs, Associates/Senior Associates sometimes have their own offices. Depends on the layout of the building and the size/makeup of the team.

At my group, VP's had cubicles just like analysts/associates and only directors got offices. In other groups, it was different.
All our associates have offices. Helps to not be in NYC, where I believe our associates do not have offices.
It's also just a function of space/situation - we've got one office where an MD is stuffed in a conference room, because there's nowhere else to go. Meanwhile we've got 3 open offices right now, but if we grow into them associates may no longer get one.

Which IB's, in the U.K. and the U.S., give employees private offices with secretary? What ranking would someone need to reach within an IB to attain one? Or are they usually only given to top levels? I understand that traders are placed on trading floors, so I am assuming they usually never get one... Is that correct? I do know that former Lehman Brothers used to give nice private offices for vp levels and above.

In NYC (and in my experience) VP's are the lowest level with the possibility of a private office. The more senior VP's often have a private office, the newer VP's often share an office.
SVP's always have their own office.
I believe only MD's have their own admin assistant and sometimes I've seen newer MD's share one AA with one or two others.
No idea about traders though.
Wonder if its the same in British banks as well..
I have my own office it's not that big of a deal, being in a cube is actually more fun you get to talk with people and whatnot.
I can't wait till i get a BA though.. maybe in a couple years.

No. It depends on the shop.
At my bank, all associates work in cubicles. VPs get their offices at some point during their first year, but not always right away.
My floor is pretty much open plan with senior guys having offices they can use when they feel the need, although most MDs do stay in their offices thankfully. They like hanging out with the kids from time to time.
