When to follow up after submitting apps?

Hi all, just wondering what time would likely be best to follow up after submitting apps for the firms that open on Jan 1. Would it best to email right after (ie Jan1-2) or wait until like Monday Jan 5? For those involved in recruiting, what time would you be most likely to see my email?
