When to lock in housing for SA stint?

Working in midtown next summer, when is the best time to lock in a place to stay? I'm thinking just finding an Airbnb and reserving it in April-May, but I've seen posts on here where it seems like people already have things in place. Just don't want to get in a situation where I get fucked by a cancellation fee if I need to switch arrangements

You should start looking March/April. If you're in a big city, I recommend giving Craigslist a shot. Airbnb can be quite expensive and there are a lot of hidden gems on Craigslist. For example, I was either going to pay $2,400 for the lowest price Airbnb in midtown or get a $1300 studio off Craigslist. Can Craigslist be a little shady? Yeah, but it's all about vetting the landlords and the properties beforehand. You can end up saving a lot of money as well.

You lived alone for the summer? If so, how was? If not, how was?

Kinda wanna find a place I can go back to myself, as well as bring girls back without having to worry about roommates. As of now the plan is to room with kids going into IB from my school
