When to start networking for FT

Hi guys ,

I know I might be thinking way ahead but I’m a junior yet to start my 2026 internship. For context work in MM bank (Mizuho/Oppenheimer/Stifel) and thinking about lateraling for a better bank FT. Just wondering when I should networking for FT and for context also studying abroad next semester so this complicates things — is it too early now to start — Thanks

now is too early, FT recruiting for SA25 isn't even finished yet. Would suggest starting during your internship or maybe at most a couple weeks before

it is not too early, say you are incoming analyst pick your groups and build contacts now dont listen to him now you have the most time you will obviously don't outrightly say anything just say you are incoming would love to learn about their experiences and group.Speak to 2 people a week until you star your internship you will have a healthy fucking networking coming full time. Only issue is people recruiting for internships may be cold emailing now as well which may make responses tougher go for quality over quantity, you have time now and focus on getting the skills for a return that is the most important thing

For context, interned MM S&T this summer and just signed with one of best IB groups on the street. You don’t need to start networking until the spring. Be very targeted with the groups you want to work in.

This is way too early. This signified that you only picked a shop because that was the only offer you can get. Now that is likely the truth but you dont want to come off as unwanted goods so early on. I personally recommend networking starting the week after the fourth of July. FT recruiting is a sprint not a marathon. I successfully recruited FT into an EB and all my networking done prior to fourth of July was worthless.
