When working on your resume, what does "closed $100 million deal" mean, exactly?
When we say this, do we refer to the equity value? Enterprise value? Total S&U? Total capital raise amount? I could make a case for any of the above, but just curious what your thoughts are!
Whatever is in the press release.
Whatever provides the largest defensible number.
For example, I worked on the $14 billion sale of Dominion's LDC business to Enbridge. The $14 billion is the TEV. I also worked on a deal where we sold some solar farms and a solar development company. The transaction price was ~$20 million. The total asset value was ~$250 million. When talking about this deal, I use the total asset value number.
You want to put forward the biggest number possible. HOWEVER, and this is equally as important, if you get asked about the details of the deal, you need to be able to legitimately justify saying that deal was whatever number you said. There is more than one way to talk about deal size. You just have to use a defensible one that markets your experience the best way possible.
Remember, resumes are marketing documents. They are not sworn testimonies under oath
