Where do I find deal information ?

Hello WSO,

Probably a beginner question here. But I have scored a coffee chat with a M&A MD at a pretty strong bank and I do not want to mess up this opportunity. I want to find out information on the deals that his bank has been working on so that I can show that I done my research when talking to him.

I know that major M&A deals will be prevalent in the news but where can I find information of the smaller less known deals that go on. I would appreciate any advice on coffee chatting with a M&A MD and where I can find this info.

As always appreciate it WSO.

A few items:

  • Please do not overdo it--anyone can source deal data from FactSet, CapIQ or Bloomberg and recite multiples and transaction values without understanding context--the strongest candidates will find ways to demonstrate knowledge of space and platform's experience without coming across as annoying

  • Dovetailing this point, use Bloomberg to apply an M&A screen filtering for industry and advisor--from here, you can find a few transactions that fit your interests--leverage other sources for multiples, synergies and investor decks should Bloomberg lack specificity of detail

Any senior banker will be interested in your thoughts regarding the transactions--begin to develop your own thesis around the space--and again, do not over do it.
