rynofrowanWhich would you all suggest I put on my sandwich?
Peanut Butter
or
Creamed Corn
oh man, what a saucy and witty response, i bet you were really proud of yourself. But as I am a first yr MBAer and looking to break into IB, I'm looking for some real input from someone who matters. Not from someone who obviously has nothing more to do than practice mocking ppl's questions.
I would choose M&A advisory. I worked on wall street for years, and M&A advisory NEVER ends.
Capital markets you can have months and even years recently just dry. No IPOs, no high yield debt being issued. Nothing.
M&A can have very rough hours (don't be surprised to work 24/7 for 4 days in a row, say deal terms handshake deal on Thursday, and you HAVE to announce the deal before market opens at 9:30atmET Monday morning. Guess what: there's your whole weekend. You're not sleeping.
(Caveat: Capital markets for an IPO or big securities offerings with a Road Show can be similar hours too for 10-12 days, but often not as much of a rush as M&A. )
But overall for career security my personal opinion is M&A over Capital Markets hands down. M&A really not that cyclical vs. CM.
