WHo can land you an interview

Are analysts & associates able to land you an interview?

I've been told I have a good resume for summer analyst positions but everyone tells me they can't help me get an interview.

I haven't been able to get in touch with any MDs or VPs at BBs but I did get analysts and associates to talk to me and they said they couldn't help me.

Would reaching out to analyst/associates be more helpful at MM banks and elite boutiques rather than BBs?

I have never had anyone explicitly tell me that they could get me an interview. It could be because they didn't like me, but I wouldn't be too discouraged if I was you. Your resume might not be good enough for them to outright promise you an interview, but doesn't mean you won't get a first round.

In terms of getting first rounds, I believe it is usually analysts from your school (if this is through OCR) who will be picking resumes from that pile.

Analysts that are in their first year can certainly make a recommendation for you to their associates and VPs but most likely can't get you an interview....most likely depends the bank. From what I noticed during my FT recruitment, it was usually an associate at the bank that was running the recruiting process. I would continue to talk to as many people as you can whether they are analysts or MD's. Once you apply, you should follow up with them and ask them how to best position yourself for a first round interview.
