I think it’s a relevant question if planning to lateral, though agree not very important in grand scheme of things.
But if you were raised on CapIQ and lateral to a bank that also used CapIQ then you can hit the ground running from Day 1 instead of taking a few weeks to learn the formula syntax and interface for FactSet.
Barclays uses FactSet. Working on a deal with JPM and their guys send over excel sheets with FactSet codes in them. It’s an non-US team we’re working with, but I’d think they probably use the same data service across all geographies so I assume that means JPM also uses FactSet.
Personally I’ve used both and really prefer FactSet but I was also an intern when using CapIQ, so maybe it’s better than I realized from my limited use.

Why does it matter? you'll use whatever the firm gives you. I think CapIQ and Bloomberg is standard at BB's

Current SA at goldman we use CapIQ
So they have live chat assistance?
Who doesn’t use CIQ? I thought that Factset was just a specialised database for ECM or when you want to get non traditional multiples like EBITA
A lot of places dont.
Hmm ok - never met anyone personally who didn’t have CIQ access ..
You were wrong
preslink is king
UBS uses both FactSet and SNL
I use/have access to both. No terminal though as most people in IB don’t have their own.
Capiq superior
Why? It doesn't even have live support chat
No but they have living human beings you can talk to in a matter of seconds. Personally I find this much nicer.
Citi uses Factset
EVR Factset
PWP uses both CIQ and FactSet, and BBG if necessary. Getting rid of FactSet to transition to just CIQ, much to everyone's annoyance
Piper used CapIQ primarily (though there were a couple Factset licenses were floating around). Used both in PE. CapIQ > Factset IMO.
piper uses ciq
I'm an idiot that's what I meant to write originally.
RBC == CAPIQ
What about boutiques like Centerview, PJT, Evercore, PWP
