Who’s best corp dev headhunter

My company is trying to use a HH to find corp dev applicants from banks

I used all the typical HH for PE but found this opp from a listing. Now we are recruiting and I am trying to figure out who of the top HH does the best corp dev recruiting?

We are trying to recruit from the south / ny/ca/chi to come to Atlanta - we do very large deals and are very active, have people incl. myself from NY banking but want more of a pipeline

Recruited for Atlanta a few years back (ignore title) and have talked to most of the recruiters there. Some are your usual suspects, but it’s definitely a mixed bag.

Variner - the 2 Partners are well connected and personable. They do mostly PE, but have Corp Dev postings for most of the larger strategics

Charles Aris - they have a dedicated Corp Dev team that always has a flurry of listings

Brad Forrer / Forrer Group - mostly does LMM PE, but seems to touch Corp Dev a bit

Others - Selby Jennings, BrainWorks, etc. these are volume players and probably don’t do a great job of screening candidates

For Variner, they keep asking applicants to fill out detailed, time-consuming questionnaires for each role before the firm has even expressed interest or reviewed the resume - and this takes a good 30 minutes. Then I found out the HH misquoted me in the intro to the client firm when he was quoting my investment philosophy out of context as he was telling me how he framed my profile - and this was not good. I believe most of their clients have very niche focuses.

Agree with other poster that you should focus on Atlanta and Charlotte. Plenty of IB groups there. Brad Forrer (Forrer Group) and Jeremy Shedrow (RowAllen Group) are two recruiters focused on Atlanta who I have worked with as a candidate. Both had several corp dev roles, but this was also 5+ years ago. I have also worked with Carter Pierce, Oxbridge, and Amity for corp dev roles, but not in Atlanta. Charles Aris, Korn Ferry, Kforce, StevenDouglas, Spencer Stuart, Evolve Partners, and The Harrison-Rush Group are groups that frequently post corp dev roles on LinkedIn, but I have never interacted with any of them.

I might be jaded, but I just find the value-add from headhunters, especially for corp dev roles, to be minimal. They are most likely going to post your job online and then send cold InMails to candidates on LinkedIn. I have yet to interact with a headhunter (as a candidate) who I would say did any sort of deep-level screening. I would avoid places like Selby Jennings that (rightfully) get trashed on WSO, but also not feel the need to use a big name PE recruiter. ADP or any firm that offers retained searches can do this.
