Why do American banks dominate in corporate lending?
Sorry if this is a noob question. I was looking at the FT league tables for loans and saw that US banks dominate.
I was just wondering why some foreign banks weren’t doing extremely well like DB or Japanese banks considering how low the cost of lending is for them due to their central banks’ far lower rates than even what we have in the US.
Much of the lending is also domestic and Americans are more accustom to the notion of debt and being in debt than European or Asian counterparts.
This is exactly what it is. European debt markets have been historically behind the US.
