Because why do they care? If you say youre black, gay, whatever, they’ll believe you and report you in their diversity statistics. 

 

This question has merit to an extent. If someone is 1/16th black or 1/8th Cherokee the company would still have to believe you when you state that.
Other examples: I know Hispanics with ancestors from Europe who have blonde hair and blue eyes; comparably, you could argue the same about diversity candidates from privileged backgrounds who had the opportunity to go to private schools their entire lives.

Yet, from the diversity angle they all would qualify.

The entire diversity program is an honor based system and at times you won't be able to see diversity in a candidate. This isn't a perfect system.
