Why was GS SSG Toronto shut down?

From what I've heard, it's cause they wanted to merge their offices into their NY office. SSG is also in Dallas; I don't know if they shut them down and move them to ny too, or if it's just Toronto.

the lead PM left to start his own firm, and GS was reallocating its Canada resources to Calgary at the time.

Yuntsucks, I had heard a diff story (as per above), but not from a confirmed source. I'm curious who the PM is.

I was told a couple guys went to another bank/financial services firm, a bunch of other ppl went over to CPP.

Lead PM was Michael Ruscetta. He is currently marketing his new fund. The whole point of the canadian desk in the first place was to surface canadian "opportunities" specifically in the oil/mining space. Toronto is not the best place to do that, and lots of firms realized that at about the same time. Same reason that Moore Cap pulled out.

There were not that many people there in the first place. I didn't hear that anyone went to CPP, but it makes sense. I know at least one person went to OTPP.

CPP Private Debt. We're probably talking about different groups within SSG. Info on ppl I've heard about are probably from the SSG Lending Group.

I don't know too much about SSG beyond the general info - how is the SSGLG diff from regular SSG?
