Will I be screwed if I leave banking for a strategic finance role now?
Currently 7 months on the desk, considering leaving (horrible hours, think 9-4 two days a week, 9-11/12 the rest, sometimes do 10 hours each of saturday sunday other times do 1 each, have pulled four all nighters because VP is neurotic) have gotten shouted at over 10 times (yes, shouted - three of the times were in front of at least one another analyst)
Have read quite a bit into corporate development / strat fin roles and found a few that start in the next month or so (growth stage technology companies). Significant paycut and miss out on 1y bonus.
My longer term goal is VC, or growth equity, how bad will it look if I don’t finish the first year?
I'm not sure what you mean by "look bad". Are you referring to in interviews? Or the perception?
Make a pros / cons list.
Significant paycut on the bonus is to be expected. But on the base? If this is a $50K corp dev job don't take it lol
Thanks, interviews in particular
“You need to understand one thing very clearly: once you cut off the flow of laundered money to them, the Mafia will leave no stone unturned to find out who screwed them. When I retire ? check to the Food budget category . At stance , when applying for a bank loan to the end of the month.
bump - OP what did you decide to do?
Op here - I stuck it out and am in my second year. Shit has gotten better but I still hate my job and am wary going into roles at tech startups now
